“The Road to the Future
(The closing address, given by Sister Angelina, at the conference entitled “The Re-Emergence of the Goddess at Kensington, [London, Britain] Maia [April 18th – May 15th] 5080 [1979])

A little over three years ago, [1975] I was part of a group of traditional Madrians living partly near Oxford and partly around the Kentish Coast. The members of this group were thinking and talking about taking the unprecedented step of bringing their religion out into the open, and giving those who had not been brought up in traditional Madrian homes the opportunity of becoming a part of the religion of the Goddess.”

“KALI YUGA 5081
PERCEPTIVE READERS will have noted that the date at the head of this page is a little different from usual, in that the year is numbered 5081 instead of 121. Among traditional Madrian communities, there has never been any common system of numbering the years, for each year is a reflection of the archetypal Year, and [unreadable] The Christian and other numbering systems are symptoms of the progressive de-sacralisation of time and the cult of “facts” and statistics which characterise the end of the Iron Age. In our own communities when a particular year had to be identified, some local index such as the reign of a priestess or of a householder, was taken (“It was Lady Theia’s third year as mistress”).

Furthermore, being the primordial religion, the Madrian Faith has no “beginning” in earthly history from which to count; for it is older than the human race itself.

Nevertheless, when going into print, we realised that some system of year-numbering would be needed. We experimented with counting from the appearance of our Lady at Lourdes, and the symbolic date of the foundation of Her Temple at Ephesus. Now we have finally settled on a system of counting the years from a symbolic date representing the beginning of the Iron Age.”

Page 5 Work In Progress: Trouble: The reason why this magazine is so late… is that our expensive typesetter broke down half-way through its production. We have now got a better one… This puts us in a difficult financial position… Put briefly, this means that most if our activities will have to be cut to the bone over the coming months, and our Lady’s work of gathering in Her lost souls will be severely hampered…
